Dutch, Palestinian NGOs Sue Netherlands over Gaza War

The Facts

  • Dutch and Palestinian NGOs filled a legal complaint on Thursday against the Netherlands over its alleged failure to prevent Israel from committing possible genocide in Gaza and other violations of international law. Israel has denied it is committing genocide in Gaza.

  • The NGOs' lawyer told Reuters that the lawsuit seeks to ban all Dutch weapon exports to Israel and to halt all business with Israel related to its presence in the occupied Palestinian territories. The case is expected to be heard in November.

The Spin

Israel will be increasingly internationally isolated as it continues its genocide in Gaza. Though these suits may not stop the war, at the very least, Western officials will feel more pressure to limit their support for Israel's genocidal rampage throughout the Middle East.

Israel, unlike all the other countries investigated by the ICC, is a democratic state with strong institutions. Karim Khan has politicized the organization in an unethical crusade against the Jewish state. There is simply no legal or moral basis to accuse Israel of genocide or to prosecute it.
