US Nuclear Attack Submarine Surfaces in Cuba Behind Russian Fleet

A Chinese nuclear attack submarine, the country's most advanced, sank in recent months in Wuhan ahead of its first sea trials, satellite pictures have reportedly revealed.

The sinking of the first vessel of the Chinese navy's Zhou class, designed to stalk and attack ships and escape undetected, was reportedly first flagged in July.

Satellite images showing floating cranes at the Wuchang Shipyard reportedly implied the newly-built vessel, with its X-shaped stern, sunk in either May or June.

Tom Shugart of the US's Center for a New American Security first noticed the unusual "cranes clustered around" one spot in the images of the Chinese dock.

China hasn't yet acknowledged the incident and neither casualties, if any, nor environmental hazard caused by the nuclear submarine's sinking has been determined.

Unnamed US officials reportedly said it was “not surprising" that China had tried to cover up the incident, leaving questions about its internal accountability and oversight.
