US Election: 'Uncommitted' Group Declines to Endorse

The Facts

  • In a statement released Thursday, the pro-Palestine Uncommitted National Movement said it can't endorse Democratic Vice President Kamala Harris, but it's also against Republican former Pres. Donald Trump winning the presidency because of his "plans to accelerate the killing in Gaza."

  • The group cited Harris' "unwillingness to shift on unconditional weapons policy" or support "upholding existing US and international human rights law" as reasons it can't endorse her. It also said Harris didn't respond to its request to meet with Palestinian-American families who've been affected by the conflict.

The Spin

Harris has ignored this group as Vice President and as the Democratic nominee. Uncommitted even sent a letter to Harris reiterating its foreign policy demands. Now that she's blatantly ignored Uncommitted, she's likely to lose hundreds of thousands of votes in the most important states, possibly costing her the entire election.

Harris' campaign hasn't been perfect, but there's no questioning the foreign policy experience she's gained in the Biden administration. She knows how to strengthen alliances to counter America's enemies and she understands that America's diversity is the country's greatest economic asset and what its enemies fear most. Uncommitted should recognize her commitment to resolving the conflict in Gaza.

Harris can't seem to please anyone on the Gaza issue. She can't convince far-left Democrats she's supportive enough of Palestinians, but the Biden administration hasn't shown enough loyalty to Israel. The US deserves a president who's steadfast in their convictions and sticks by America's allies.
