The Facts

  • 1Imane Khelif of Algeria, the Olympic boxer at the center of a gender eligibility controversy, has filed a complaint for "aggravated cyber harassment" against the social media platform X with the online hate center of the Paris prosecutor's office.

  • 2Her lawyer said Saturday in a statement that the investigation will focus on "who was behind" and those who took part in what he described as a "misogynist, racist and sexist campaign" during the Games.

  • 3This comes as the welterweight fighter won gold medal at the Olympics on Friday amid debate over her sex, particularly after her first opponent withdrew the bout. Khelif dominated her three other matches, winning all of them unanimously.
