Muhammad Yunus, an 84-year-old Nobel peace laureate economist and banker, has been named chief advisor of the interim government of strife-hit Bangladesh.
Yunus’s appointment as head of the government was reportedly announced on Wednesday, a day after Pres. Mohammed Shahabuddin dissolved parliament.
His name was reportedly proposed by organizers of the massive student-led protests of recent weeks against former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
