Hamas Political Leader Ismail Haniyeh Killed in Iran

The Facts

• Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh was killed in an Israeli strike on his residence in Tehran, the Palestinian militant group claimed in a statement on Wednesday. Haniyeh was in Tehran to attend the inauguration of Iran's new president Masoud Pezeshkian.

• Hamas' political leader was reportedly killed along with one of his bodyguards when an "airborne guided projectile" hit a residence for military veterans in the north of Tehran in which he was staying. Israel did not commented on Haniyeh’s death.

• Hamas said Haniyeh - living in exile - was killed in what it called a "treacherous Zionist" attack, with Iran's Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) confirming that the Hamas leader was killed in the Iranian capital, without giving further details.
