During a speech before a group of religious activists on Friday, Republican candidate for the 2024 US presidential election Donald Trump said that if Christians vote to re-elect him this year, "in four years" they "won’t have to do it anymore."

Trump further explained his remark by stating, "We’ll have it fixed so good you’re not going to have to vote." His campaign later added that his comment was "about uniting this country and bringing prosperity to every American."

Democrats argued that he was suggesting a desire to be a dictator, with Chairman of the Democratic National Committee (DNC) Jaime Harrison tying Friday's comment to Trump's remark that he would be a dictator "on day one" if re-elected.

Other speakers at the event, the theme of which was "unity and biblical truth," included former Trump adviser Peter Navarro, former Secreatry of Housing and Urban Development under Trump Dr. Ben Carson, and conservative activist Charlie Kirk.

This comes as the campaign of Trump's presumptive opponent, Democratic Vice Pres. (VP) Kamala Harris, has focused its energy on criticizing Trump's VP candidate JD Vance. A recent Fox News poll found the two opponents effectively tied in the swing states of Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin.
