Is Climate Change an Existential Threat?

The US Environment Protection Agency (EPA) on Monday awarded $4.3B in grants to fund grassroots, community-driven climate action projects of 25 recipients in 30 states.

Besides supporting emissions reduction projects, including forest management and household energy efficiency, the funds will reportedly bolster action towards local sustainability goals.

According to the Biden administration, the funding would reduce greenhouse emissions by roughly two percentage points by 2030.

The EPA said the 25 recipients — including states, tribes, and local governments — were selected from about 300 applications, which collectively sought nearly $33B in funding.

The announcement came on a day when climate groups dubbing Biden history's "greatest US President for climate" called on his successor to build on his legacy.
