The Facts

  • As the White House announced that US Pres. Joe Biden tested positive for COVID and retreated to his Delaware home to isolate himself late on Wednesday, several Democrats have told the New York Times and CNN that he is "being receptive" and "willing to listen" to calls for him to step aside.

  • The development came after ABC News' Jonathan Karl reported that Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) has "forcefully made the case" to Biden that it would be better for him, the Democratic Party, and the country "if he were to bow out."

  • House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) reportedly has had similar discussions with Biden, while former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi told Biden that if he continues his re-election bid, the Democrats' chances of winning the majority of the House would be ruined.
