As the White House announced that US Pres. Joe Biden tested positive for COVID-19 and was retreating to his Delaware home to isolate late on Wednesday, multiple reports suggested he was being "receptive" to calls for him to step away from his re-election campaign.
The development came after ABC News' Jonathan Karl reported on air that Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) "forcefully" made the case to Biden that it would be better for him, the Democratic Party and the country "if he were to bow out" during a one-to-one meeting on Saturday.
Further reports in ABC News and CNN stated that House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) and former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi also had similar discussions with Biden in recent days.
As Biden isolates for COVID, he is looking ever-more isolated politically as well. The next few days will determine if he can survive this situation or whether this is the end of his re-election campaign.
Irrespective of who the Democratic Party candidate is, former Pres. Donald Trump has an opportunity to seal the deal on this election as he delivers the keynote address at the Republican National Convention this Thursday.
