  • While delivered by the head of state — symbolic of the country's political structure as a constitutional monarchy — the speech is written by the elected government. In this case, the party of Sir Keir Starmer which came to power following their election win on July 4.

  • Among the priorities for Starmer were easing the country's cost-of-living crisis and spurring economic growth. "My government will seek a new partnership with both business and working people and help the country move on from the recent cost of living challenges by prioritizing wealth creation for all communities," King Charles said.
