The burning of fossil fuels has led to annual record-breaking heat for several years now, and what's most troubling is that heat-related deaths are rising alongside these temperature changes. From north to south and east to west, Americans are finding it more and more difficult to avoid these lethal heat waves. As human beings are the ones who created inorganic global warming, this catastrophe can only be stopped if human behavior changes.
The media sensationalizes natural disaster stories so much that people think the world is always on fire. What they don't include is that natural disaster deaths have dropped by 92% since their peak in the 1920s and carbon emissions are also predicted to decline in both rich and poor countries in the coming decade. As countries work to lower emissions to the best of their ability, society will continue to adapt technologically to protect people from severe weather when it occurs.
There is a 50% chance that the 2˚C global climate threshold will be crossed in 2045, according to the Metaculus prediction community.
