The sad story of Haiti is one where intervention from the outside world does more harm than good. The United States in particular has a history of propping up allied but corrupt leaders who only create more instability, with Washington being warned that propping up Henry would lead to violence. The world community must support democracy and let Haiti chart its own path and allow the council to govern. Hopefully, an independent and strong Haiti can emerge from this turmoil.
The transition council and all of their efforts are doomed without the immediate support of the US on the ground in Haiti. The government is entirely outmanned and outgunned by violent criminal gangs, which makes a Haiti-led recovery a pipe dream. Famine, death, and a refugee crisis are looming if the hemisphere's superpower does not restore order and back the transitional government, buying time for the UN security forces. A meltdown in Haiti is imminent without US military intervention.
There is a 74% chance that Haiti will experience a successful coup d'etat before 2040, according to the Metaculus prediction community.
