WikiLeaks’ Julian Assange faces U.S. extradition judgment day

The UK's high court on Monday granted WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange another appeal of his extradition to the US. Assange, who's Australian, had argued that due his status as a foreign national, he may not be given free speech rights in a trial in the US.

The UK's High Court on Monday allowed WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange to appeal his extradition to the US again. Assange, who's Australian, had argued that due to his status as a foreign national, he may not be given free speech rights in a trial in the US.

While the US has promised that Assange would be protected by the country's First Amendment rights, the court ruled that Washington's pledge was not good enough.

Extradition was previously approved, but only if Assange was "permitted to rely on the first amendment," "not prejudiced at trial" due to his "nationality," and provided the same free speech rights as a "United States citizen."
