According to a report by the New York Times on Wednesday, it was revealed that Robert F. Kennedy Jr., a contender for the US presidency, had contracted a brain parasite in 2010, which resulted in significant memory loss and cognitive impairment. According to Kennedy campaign spokeswoman Stefanie Spear, RFK Jr. "is in robust physical and mental health," saying he contracted the parasite during one of his many travels in Africa, Asia, and South America, and that his health problem was resolved over a decade ago.

In a recent post on X, Kennedy humorously stated, "I offer to eat five more brain worms and still beat President Trump and President Biden in a debate."

The controversy stems from a 2012 divorce deposition when Kennedy claimed that a doctor had said a parasitic worm was eating his brain before dying. Kennedy may have caught a brain parasite, but tapeworms do not eat brain tissue. Experts say memory loss is more often caused by mercury poisoning than parasitic worms.

The 70-year-old presidential candidate has other health problems. He contracted hepatitis C from intravenous heroin addiction as a young man. He has previously had an abnormal heart rhythm, but more distinctly, he has something called spasmodic dysphonia, which causes him to speak with a strained and raspy voice.

In a recent post on X, Kennedy humorously stated, "I offer to eat five more brain worms and still beat President Trump and President Biden in a debate." He added, “I feel confident of the result even with a six-worm handicap."
