House Democratic Leaders announced on Tuesday that would their will back Republican House Speaker Mike Johnson from an impending Motion to Vacate the Chair proposed by Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.).
Greene first filed the motion to oust Johnson on March 22, receiving support from some of her conservative colleagues in the House who are upset at Johnson’s handling of government spending, particularly foreign aid to Ukraine and other countries.
The real divide in Washington isn’t Republicans vs Democrats, it’s those who put America first vs those who are bought and paid for by special interests. Upon becoming Speaker, Mike Johnson vowed to uphold the will of Republican voters and fight against far-left policies that are bleeding America dry. Johnson decided to cozy up with Democrats and fortify the Uniparty in DC, and now he must be removed, even if it means upsetting establishment Republicans.
While some hardline conservatives in the House may not be thrilled with Speaker Johnson, it is important for the GOP caucus to stick together and avoid making a scene that will hurt the party. With a razor-thin majority, it’s nearly impossible for Republicans to operate without Democratic support, and it’s unreasonable to expect Johnson to be perfect. Republicans already removed one speaker, and ousting Johnson will only bring us right back to where we are now.
While Republicans continue to show the country that they are incapable of governing, Democrats are rising above politics. Americans demand stable leadership, but they have a government that has been held hostage by the far-right in Congress. While House Democrats may not agree with Speaker Johnson ideologically, they are committed to restoring decency and bipartisanship.
