The approval of this landmark legislation is a relief for Britons and signals the dawn of fundamental change in dealing with global migration. The Rwanda Plan will deter vulnerable migrants from dangerous crossings and dismantle the business of criminal trafficking gangs. For that reason, the UK has made every preparation to start deporting illegal migrants to Rwanda as soon as possible. The Sunak government's victory will protect lives and make Britain safer.
Urgent action is indeed needed to stop criminal traffickers and strengthen the UK's borders, but the Rwanda plan is certainly not going to achieve that. The plan isisn't not only extraordinarily costly but also only covers 1% of people arriving in the UK, with no blueprint for the other 99%. Meanwhile, returns dropped by almost 50% since the Conservatives took over. Britain needs a proper migration policy, and the Rwanda plan is proof of the utter failure of the Sunak government.
