British Museum and V&A to lend Ghana looted gold and silver
GuardianAPR 2024
By lending the goldwork to Ghana, the UK is expressing its acknowledgment of the spiritual and cultural significance of the artifacts to the Asante people. Although the objects only make up part of the Asante collections, the loans include most of the key works to right some of the injustices of Britain's colonial past. As legal restrictions make a permanent transfer impossible, it is to Ghana's credit that by signing the deal it recognizes the British museums' legal ownership of the objects.
