In total, the ADL cited 746 alleged antisemitic incidents across the 85 schools. These allegations have included Jewish students being spat on, a professor calling the Oct. 7 attack a "resistance offensive," and Palestinian groups blaming Israel for the attack.

This comes amid recent reports of anti-Muslim incidents, including the vandalization of the Center for Islamic Life at Rutgers University in New Jersey. The perpetrators smashed the building's windows, TVs, artwork, and printers, with authorities claiming to be probing it as a potential hate crime.

Campus antisemitism was an issue long before the Oct. 7 attack, but it has certainly worsened thanks to the weak responses from administrations across the country. Elite universities like Harvard, MIT, and North Carolina Chapel Hill have cowered in the face of rampant antisemitic violence and speech. If they wish to regain trust, they should follow schools like Brandeis and ban these harmful anti-Israel groups and the vicious tactics they use to scare Jewish students.

Elite universities have not protected Palestinian students in the slightest but rather followed in the footsteps of the far-right by painting anti-war Palestinians as violent terrorists. Instead of sticking to their principles, they've ignored the long-held liberal values of free speech no matter the subject. Jewish groups are claiming that anti-Israel rhetoric is actual violence, thus becoming the 'woke' caricature conservatives use to stigmatize progressive causes.

While it appears that liberal institutions are realizing the oft-violent nature of the pro-Palestine movement in America, conservatives must be careful not to encourage anti-free speech agendas. Once the Israel-Palestine conflict is over, these universities, if given more control over speech, will undoubtedly use this power to go after White and conservative students. The rule of thumb should be to ban physical violence without prohibiting speech for any student or group.

This report is unsettling but unsurprising. Some of the top schools in the country, especially in the Ivy League, have been the site of many disturbing antisemitic incidents. The former president of Harvard was even unwilling to say calling for the genocide of Jews violated the school's code of conduct. These schools must do better.

This report follows the recent trend of pro-Israel groups and individuals conflating any criticism of the Jewish State — much of which relates to the invasion of Gaza — with antisemitism. No one denies there's been an increase in antisemitic incidents across the US, but college students must accept that political disagreements on campus aren't putting them in danger.
