Biden could be left off general election ballot in Ohio, Republican official warns

A scheduling issue could jeopardize Pres. Joe Biden’s access to Ohio’s general election ballot in November, according to a letter sent from the legal counsel of Ohio Secretary of State Frank LaRose.

A letter obtained by ABC News from the legal counsel of Ohio Secretary of State Frank LaRose to Ohio Democratic Party Chair Liz Walters describes how a scheduling issue could jeopardize Pres. Joe Biden’s access to Ohio’s general election ballot in November.

Paul DeSantis, chief legal counsel for LaRose, addressed the letter to Ohio Democratic Party Chair on Friday, telling her that the Democratic National Convention’s date of Aug. 19, 2024, occurs past the state’s Aug. 7 deadline to certify presidential candidates.

The document was first obtained by ABC News, and Ohio state minority leaders Rep. Allison Russo and Sen. Nickie Antonio, both Democrats, were also copied on the letter. A Biden spokesperson said the campaign is “monitoring the situation” and is confident that Biden will be on every state’s ballot.

Despite being the presumptive nominee, Biden won’t be formally nominated as the Democratic nominee until the convention, and DiSantis asked for a prompt response from Walters. The GOP-controlled would need to act quickly to accommodate the Democrat.

Driven by political spite, Democrats tried to remove former Pres. Donald Trump, the presumptive Republican nominee, from ballots in several states. Luckily the Supreme Court stopped those efforts and taught Democrats about election law. Now Democrats are getting another lesson because they failed to adhere to a simple election law. Democrats have been so preoccupied with trying to keep former president and presumptive Republican nominee Donald Trump off presidential ballots that they’ve forgotten to keep up with standard ballot access procedures. Democrats did this to themselves and now they're reliant on the sympathies of Republicans. It's karmic payback for what Democrats have tried to do to Trump.
