Samuel Alito is an Associate Justice of the Supreme Court of the United States, appointed by President George W. Bush and sworn in on January 31, 2006. A Princeton and Yale Law School graduate, Alito served as a judge on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit before his Supreme Court appointment, and is known for his conservative judicial philosophy, often described as a "practical originalist".
