Garry Kasparov

Garry Kasparov, 61, is a Russian chess grandmaster, former world champion (1985–2000), and prominent pro-democracy activist. Since retiring from professional chess in 2005, he has led opposition to Vladimir Putin's regime, chairing the Renew Democracy Initiative and serving on the Human Rights Foundation board. He is a prolific author and commentator on artificial intelligence and authoritarianism.
